The Great Southern Sports Desk
with Steve Hutchings
Steve was born in Beckenham, Kent, in England and at age 10½, moved with his family to Perth, Western Australia.
Steve has always had a strong interest in both sports and music. He started playing cricket at age 14 and is now umpiring for the Albany Cricket Association. Steve’s son Jesse 21, also shares his father’s love of music, playing guitar from age 9 and now producing his own music on the computer.
In 2005, Steve moved to Albany in search of a sea-change, where he met and married Vickie in February 2010.
Vickie, a West Coast Eagles member for 12 years, has been unable to convert Steve. He remains loyal to the Kangaroos (North Melbourne) and supports West Perth in the WAFL.
He continues to support his beloved England in the cricket and is a keen follower of Ipswich Town, since age 7, in the English Championship League, even though he has lived in Western Australia for 43 years. |

Steve joined Albany Community Radio 100.9fm 18 months ago and after filling in for a few different shifts has now secured the 'Drive Time' slot on Wednesdays from 5-7pm.
With Steve’s interest in sport, he was the logical choice to present the new sports show The Great Southern Sports Desk, which started on 30 April 2011.
This is a half-hour sports programme from 8.30 – 9.00 Saturday mornings and hopefully, with enough community support, this program may extend to one hour. |
