About 100.9fm

Albany Community Radio 100.9fm, the voice of the Lower Great Southern, initially commenced transmissions as an aspirant broadcaster in November 1994 in a shared room at The Italian Club in Albany. We were a 'weekend only' radio station, with a low-powered transmitter, broadcasting between Midnight Friday and Midnight Sunday.

In April 1996 a mast was erected atop Mt Clarence and a new 100 watt transmitter was commissioned. In February 1997 we made the bold move into brand new studios within Lotteries House (our current home) on North Road. At that time we also obtained a Special License for a one-week Full Time Broadcast .... these were heady times indeed.

By September 1997 we acquired new equipment that enabled us to broadcast in STEREO and in December 1997 the station accepted the 'leap of faith' by being awarded a permanent broadcasting licence to service the areas of Albany, Mt Barker, Wellstead, Denmark, Walpole and beyond ... a total potential audience of in excess of 38,000 supporters.

Full time twenty-four hour broadcasting commenced on Australia Day, 26 January 1998.

Early in 2000 our new 40-metre mast and transmitter hut was installed on Mt Clarence and our upgraded antennae were installed at the very top of this mast.

With the installation of a new satellite dish and receiver at Lotteries house in 2003 we are now able to broadcast an hourly Radio National News service during the day.
